A .450 NO 2 MUSKET WESTLEY RICHARDS PATTERN 1869 IMPROVED MARTINI SHORT RIFLE, SERIAL NO 983,
circa 1870 with 31in. Birmingham proofed barrel the nocks form stamped 'RIFLE / 2 1/4 case', fitted with block and blade front-sight and military pattern ladder rearsight (probably a replacement), the action body marked on th left 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT / 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON', with forward hinged underlever action, iron mounted two piece walnut stock, the fore-end secured by one pin and the top barrel band which is probably a replacement, barrel and action worn and to a grey patina, stock worn and cleaned overall leaving metalwork proud, some minor repairs to fore-end
